Hey everyone – what did you think about tonight’s TNA Against All Odds pay-per-view?
For my part, I’m a little surprised that Austin Aries retained his title against Alex Shelley. In my view, that takes some of the “big time” steam out of Shelley’s return and somewhat relegates him to a wrestler that is best used in the tag team division.
But more so than the TNA X-Division Championship match, I’m saddened to hear that Jesse Sorensen took a major fall during his number one contender’s match against Zema Ion. As I alluded to in my predictions for the pay-per-view, I think that Jesse has the potential to be a phenomenal wrestler and the type of personality that iMPACT Wrestling can really build its foundation on for the future. In fact, he and Garett Bischoff are the two highest searched wrestlers that land people on this website. So even though Jesse (and Garett, for that matter) does not seem to have much smark support, he certainly has a growing, excited fan base. It would be terrible for him to be taken out so early in his career – here’s hoping that he has a full recovery and becomes the major star that he can be in professional wrestling.
I guess I was a little put off by the fact that even after Sorensen’s obvious head/neck injury, iMPACT Wrestling still continued to let the Garett Bischoff vs. Gunner match progress in a way where Gunner attacked the head/neck area of Bischoff. They could have easily changed that script to have Gunner work over one of Bischoff’s arms or legs. Most folks don’t realize that Gunner is a long-time pro from the independent scene and could have easily adapted to a changed game plan.
Other than that, the rest of the card seemed somewhat rote to me. I think we all knew that the TNA World Tag Team Championships were coming off of Matt Morgan and Crimson because of the momentum and fan support that Magnus and Samoa Joe have built up over the last few weeks. I’m glad that iMPACT Wrestling acknowledged that fan support and gave the viewers what they clearly wanted to see.
