Jim Cornette, former creative team member and on-screen personality for both WWE and TNA, appeared on the “Who’s Slamming Who” wrestling podcast yesterday to discuss Monday’s shows, and was none too pleased with what he saw.
This full podcast can be heard here. In the meantime, here are some samples of what Cornette had to say:
On the night overall: “I think in 5 years people will be looking back on Jan. 4, 2010, as the night that the wrestling business finally fell in the toilet, and led the way to a change that will be meaningful. If anybody ever wants to buy a ticket to anything that TNA or WWE does ever again after seeing 5 hours of old, gray guys yelling at each other about @#$% that took place 15 years ago, I’m gobsmacked.”
On Dixie Carter: “Even [Dixie Carter], with her limited knowledge of anything related to professional wrestling, had to realize that they were dropping a turd on a plate in the middle of all those people. When you get the people chanting ‘bull@#$% to the point where the audio has to be muted on a 7-second delay 10 minutes into the biggest show that you’ve allegedly ever done, you know that you have talent to @#$% up on a major scale.”
On Impact!: “There was no statement made, there was no change, there was no new talent exposed. There was plenty of old talent exposed. But no new talent exposed in any meaningful way. There was nothing different except a bunch of old guys who’ve been out of the business for ten years saying ‘We’re gonna do it again!’”
On Raw: “…It looked like the writers of Saturday Night Live said ‘We’re going do to a wrestling parody.’”
On Sheamus as WWE Champion: “My jury’s out on him. His work wasn’t bad. He’s got an interesting look. He doesn’t really strike me as the next coming of Stone Cold Steve Austin…I understand he works out with Triple H, and that’s really all you need.”
