Major Impact: Eric Young Turns Heel?
Added on Thursday, May 28th, 2009 at 1:07 pm to Opinion Columns by Joe Vincent

TNAStars.com Presents Major Impact!

Well…where do I start with this show? On the one hand, tonight’s show was yet another example of how the writers in TNA have no idea what they’re doing and how they seem to, more or less, throw things together at the last minute. On the other hand, this is best exemplified by the completely ridiculous storyline going on with Eric Young right now.

Here is Eric Young – a guy who is way over with the crowd and has been on the TNA show for years. His shtick over the last few months has been the same, “What about me?” crap that we see time and time again in professional wrestling. Week in and week out Eric Young keeps crying for his “shot” and he gets given matches with Jeff Jarrett and Sting, among others. Sure, he keeps getting beaten, but he keeps getting his shot.

So the writers decide to take the easy route with his character and have him “snap” after he loses to Jarrett on Impact? Really? Did we not all see an Eric Young heel turn coming weeks ago? I really hope that Dixie Carter isn’t paying her writers because any wrestling fan can decipher this stuff weeks in advance. I know that she has Vince Russo on staff, but the last time he wrote anything worthwhile it was more than a decade ago and he had Vince McMahon tempering his judgment.

At some point in the last few columns I may have mentioned that I haven’t really watched WWE television since August 2007 or so. That’s not to say that I’ve been watching TNA religiously since that time, but I do DVR the show each week and eventually get around to watching it. That said, the downward spiral of creativity and “fun” that this show has been suffering from in the last few months is remarkable. How can anyone backstage justify spending so much time on vignette after vignette? In fact, they’re playing the same damn vignettes on each show, week in and week out! Do we really need a 30, 60, or 120 second spot (or longer) on Sting telling us who he is or Mick Foley telling us who he is? Really? We REALLY need that on the show? Wouldn’t that accumulated time be better spent on two or three wrestling matches? This is a wrestling show, right?

The one bright spot on the show for me was Victoria’s debut. I always liked her in WWE (up through when I stopped watching). Shane Douglas’ return (or the return of his huge twin) was so-so for me. Nothing really exciting there in my mind. And as for Raven coming back, I don’t know. I guess that I expect he’ll disappear randomly again soon.

Quote of the Night:
Nothing really outstanding this week. More Motor City Machine Guns on the stick already!
